United AFA shows difficulty of negotiating a contract
Over a year-and-a-half into negotiations, AFA and United are still far apart in trying to reach a new contract.
AFA’s update to United’s flight attendants underscores the difficulty of contract negotiations – a complex process that often takes years. AFA points out that management rejected “significant improvements” to pay and work rules (including a few items that we already have in place at Delta). In the meantime, United flight attendants have not had a pay scale increase since 2020 (their contract expired in 2021), and their top-of-scale rate remains at $67.11 compared to $76.00 at Delta.
At Delta, we work with our flight attendants directly and effectively to deliver continuous improvement and the best package of pay, benefits, and work rules in the industry. If it is this difficult for AFA to deliver improvements for their current members at United, what can Delta flight attendants expect from this union?
