United AFA: 600+ Days of Negotiations and Counting
AFA negotiations continue with United management, but the union has little progress to show with only one tentative agreement for 33 contract sections (read more here).
Just this week, AFA provided another update on negotiations, telling members that “there are substantial disagreements on all [contract] items” discussed during recent direct negotiation sessions in Chicago and Denver.
Clearly, they’ve got a long road ahead of them. But don’t just take our word for it…
In a February 2023 communication to members, United MEC president Ken Diaz admitted:
“We have some time to go through before we approach the finish line... This is a marathon, not a sprint.”
Diaz also told flight attendants that AFA can’t negotiate everything they want in a new contract:
"None of us are going to get everything we want in our new Contract... there will be things we like, things we don’t, and things that don’t impact us.”
AFA may promise a lot to Delta flight attendants, but their words at United reflect the truth of the difficulty of union contract negotiations.
At Delta, we have a direct relationship to drive improvements quickly and effectively. You don’t have to wait years to see progress.
Don’t Risk It. Don’t Sign It.
