Delta flight attendants share why they value our direct relationship
While all airlines face unpredictable conditions like the weather that can impact the work of flight attendants, Delta’s direct relationship makes it much easier to raise issues or concerns directly with managers – without having to go through a third-party like a union representative.
Joseph, a Delta flight attendant, appreciates that Delta has “an open-door policy with our entire leadership team.” He recalls that at his previous carrier “there was no open communication between us and our managers,” even in dealing with situations like the weather’s impact on work.
Instead, unions have their own procedures to raise concerns, like filing grievances, that can create barriers between managers and workers. Joseph says that “the famous last words were ‘file a grievance.’” Once your grievance is filed, it can take months, or even years, for your issue to come to the front of the line.
Lori, another Delta flight attendant, also came from a unionized carrier where it was “discouraged to talk to your managers, culturally and also by your union representatives.”
At Delta, we encourage open communication to help bring change quickly and efficiently. Watch the video above of Delta flight attendants Joseph, Lori, Jane, and Kelly sharing why they value Delta’s direct relationship.
