Delta flight attendants discuss the reality of life with a union
Delta flight attendants Tanner, Thomas, Kathleen, Janice, and Omando share their previous experiences with union representation – and common misconceptions heard during a union campaign.
Thomas says, “I was constantly told, ‘you have to fly now, grieve later. Fly now, grieve later.’ People think it’s a quick fix, but the grievance process…it’s a long, drawn-out process.”
Kathleen recalls her experience during negotiations saying, “I think people really don’t understand how lengthy and painful the negotiations process is…negotiations can take months, they can take years.”
On the topic of mandatory union dues, Janice adds, “you still have to pay those dues [and] it is grounds for termination if you do not pay those dues.”
Much misinformation can be spread during a union campaign, but with a union nothing is guaranteed.
