United AFA Negotiations: Three years later, still no contract
AFA wants to represent Delta flight attendants and has claimed it could negotiate a contract in as little as weeks or months. Yet AFA has been negotiating a new contract for United flight attendants for 3 full years, and what do they have to show for it?
Only one new section closed in the last year: It took AFA and United one year to agree on this section that is nearly identical to what was in the last contract.
Only 9 of 34 sections completed in 3 years: Key issues like compensation, benefits, scheduling, and reserve remain unresolved.
Current pay rates and work rules were negotiated in 2016: Their last pay increase was in 2021.
Since 2021, Delta flight attendants have received three pay raises totaling 14%, industry-first boarding premium pay that adds an extra 8%, plus increases in per diem, purser pay, LOD pay, vacation pay and accrual, and much more.
Despite AFA’s claims to Delta flight attendants, airline industry negotiations often take years, and no one can tell how long negotiations for a first contract involving over 28,000 Delta flight attendants would take.
