Rumor Has It: February 2025
Note: “Rumor Has It” is a biweekly newsletter sent to Delta flight attendants about a range of topics from company policies to questions about flight benefits and what is happening around the industry. Delta occasionally addresses questions in Rumor Has It related to AFA’s organizing efforts. For ease of reference, those questions and answers have been included below.
In this week’s edition, we address questions and rumors from around the system about the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), the union trying to represent Delta flight attendants.
From February 25, 2025 Edition
RUMOR: AFA says we need to lock in profit sharing in a contract, like what they’ve done at other airlines.
FACT: Like any other item in a contract, profit sharing would have to be negotiated, and no AFA contract currently provides the same level of profit sharing that Delta flight attendants receive. Take a look at United and Alaska, both represented by AFA:
- United: Flight attendants received less profit sharing (5.3%) than pilots (7.89%), and first-year flight attendants don’t receive anything in the AFA-negotiated profit sharing plan. At Delta, everyone receives the same percentage (10.04% this year), including first-year flight attendants.
- Alaska: AFA has not negotiated a profit sharing program at Alaska. The company has designed a performance-based pay program for all eligible employees with targets established each year by the Board of Directors.
Delta has led the industry in profit sharing for years. In fact, American flight attendants recently negotiated to follow our lead and match the exact same profit sharing formula that Delta flight attendants have had for years, although their payout will be less due to less profitability.
QUESTION: A fellow flight attendant handed me an A-Card while working a flight. Is that allowed?
ANSWER: No. While solicitation and advocacy activities are permitted by Delta people in non-work and non-operation areas as outlined in the Advocacy Policy, the distribution of advocacy materials including A-Cards may not occur in work areas such as the aircraft.
Every Delta employee has the right to choose or reject union representation, but you should never feel pressured to sign an A-Card. You have the right to say “no” to AFA. Leaders are available for support if you have any questions or concerns.
